Major Updates and Announcements: Finishing 2025 STRONG

I often joke about it, but I really feel like I live two different lives.

And no, it’s not like one of these super creepy weirdos you hear about on a “True Crime” documentary…?

In the summer, I’m locked in the lab with all my basketball players rehabbing injuries, building strength, and getting them ready for another great season.

But when summer ends?

Then it’s time to lock in on all the education and content creation that I don’t get to do over the summer!

It also feels like all of this energy is pent up and ready to be unleashed into the world, so I’m definitely excited about all of the things that are coming down the pipeline over the next 3-4 months.

So sit back, relax, and let me tell you what’s going on around here!

Unlocking Mobility Masterclass

I’ve been coaching for 25 years now, and over the last 20, I’d say the most frequent topic I get asked about (outside of maybe programming) is mobility.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a trainer, coach or an athlete yourself – people want to learn how mobility can help them move and feel better.

But here’s the thing…

  • In this day and age of social media and more sizzle than steak, what really works?
  • How many days per week should you be dedicating to mobility training?
  • Are your strength workouts helping – or harming – your mobility gains?
  • And quite simply how do you develop more mobility and KEEP IT for as long as possible?

Well if you’re even slightly interested in this topic, be sure to check out my FREE Unlocking Mobility masterclass on September 17th at 1:00 pm EST.

You can register for the event via the link below, and there will be a limited-time replay available if you can’t attend the live masterclass.

Montana Seminar and Workshop

I’ve gotten lots of questions about this, so I figured I’d do a deep dive here.

First off, I don’t do a lot of seminars and workshops these days, so I’m super pumped to be doing this one.

In this weekend workshop, we’re going to take a deep dive into everything Mike Robertson – from my philosophy and assessment process, to program design and coaching.

Day 1: Philosophy, Assessment and Program Design

The first 60-90 minutes is going to be all new material, and it’s going to focus on my overarching philosophy on movement.

  • Quite simply, WHY do we move the way that we do?
  • How do compensated movement patterns come about?
  • And what is my system and strategy for helping move and feel better?

Quite simply this is the starting point – if you want a deep dive on human movement and how to optimize it for every client and athlete you train, this session alone will be worth the price of admission.

Next, we’re going to dive head first into my assessment process.

Now I talked about this quite a bit in my blog post from earlier this week, but I think nowadays we’re getting caught up in the minutiae when it comes to assessments.

The goal of an assessment is to tell you what clients/athletes can and can’t do effectively, so you can write them a more effective training program.

Simple…but definitely not easy.

So whether you’re starting from scratch and want to swipe and deploy my assessment, OR you just want to brush up and refine your assessment skills, I know this section will help.

The final section of this day will be dedicated to program design.

And not the boring X’s and O’s, sets and reps you can take from any S&C textbook.

Instead, we’re going to take the results of that assessment we just went through, and we’re going to use it to write a training program that has relevance and context to that client.

In my opinion, this is the real missing link when it comes to programming.

It’s not about throwing together a cool looking workout that would play well on the ‘Gram.

The goal is to write a training program that:

A) Meets them where they’re currently at from a fitness and movement perspective, and
B) Sets them on a path to help them achieve their long-term goals.

I’ve done workshops like this before, but with additions and upgrades to every part of my process, I know this is going to be valuable.

Day 2: Coaching and Cuing for Maximum Effectiveness

As much as I love Day 1, I love Day 2 just as much because here we get to get up and get moving.

We’ll start by covering any questions we had from Day 1, and then get a solid warm-up and mobility session in to make everyone feels great.

From there, we’re going to dive into coaching and cuing all of our favorite lifts.

But rather that just focusing on one or two exercises, my goal is to help you understand the principles of progression – what you can change about an exercise to make it adaptable to any client or athlete yo utrain.

Let’s take a split-squat for example – great exercise, but not everyone can do it pain-free, with great technique etc.

So here are some thoughts:

  • How would you modify a split-squat to increase loading and strength production?
  • How would you modify it if you want to unlock the hips and improve mobility?
  • What strategies or alternatives do you have for older clients who may struggle with strength or balance?

This is the real secret sauce my friend – once you’re a savage coach and can modify exercises with the best of them, there’s no client or athlete you won’t be able to train.

Now here’s the thing – even if you’ve attended one of my seminars or workshops before, I guarantee this one is going to be different and take your understanding of movement to a whole ‘nother level.

Program Design Mentorship

It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost time to open the doors to my Program Design Mentorship again!

I love this mentorship for two reasons:

  1. Personally, I’m absolutely obsessed with the topic of program design and how to make it better, and
  2. Perhaps more importantly, I love teaching and coaching others up on and helping them improve their confidence and skills!

So if you’re looking to take your program design skills to the next level, click on the link below to learn more, and then apply if you’re serious about getting better.

I review the applications in order, and once the spots are full, you’ll have to wait at least 6 months (and potentially up to a year) before I open my next group.

Online Coaching Clients

I’m not sure if you know this about my business cycle, but I literally start ZERO online clients between May and August.

Not two.

Not one.

ZERO.

And that’s intentional.

When I work with someone I want to be locked in and focused, and with summer being my busiest time in the gym, I don’t think it’s fair to start someone when I’m distracted or not at 100%.

HOWEVER…that’s exactly why I DO start new clients in September and October!

With my coaching schedule slowly opening me up, this allows for more time to intake and onboard new clients, and make sure they’re getting awesome results right out of the gate.

So if you’re struggling with your fitness…

…plagued by aches, pain and boo-boos…

…or just looking to outsource your programming to someone you know, like and trust, let’s do this!

Of if you don’t want/need private coaching, I’ve also got several great programs on TrainHeroic that might help as well!

Sad Days…I’m Closing IBI

Yep, you read that right – at least for now, I’m going to be closing IFAST Basketball Insiders.

If you’re of a certain age, this song feels like the right vibe 😉

Here’s the simple fact of the matter: I’m being pulled in too many directions, and even though the content there is GREAT*, I just don’t have the time to do EVERYTHING I want at, at the level I want to do it at.

(* Yes I am biased – but it really is great content!)

Furthermore, I haven’t seen the growth that I’d like to see or would expect, and that’s largely due to my audience not being interested in athletic development and/or basketball.

So at least for now I’ll be closing the doors, but time will tell what this turns into in the future.

Maybe a basketball related training course?

IFAST Basketball Insiders 2.0 – but marketed to a basketball-specific audience?

Or maybe something more all-encompassing for athletes as a whole?

I’m not sure what will happen with this IP in the future, but the passion is still there to create this kind of content – so I guess time will tell.

Quick Hits

Last but not least, here are a few quick notes that may be of interest to you…

  • In case you missed it in the podcast, Kendall’s off to a solid start in high school soccer! Her goals were to make the freshman team and be a starter.

Well she’s done both those things and was also named Team Captain! Pretty proud of her ?

  • We just ordered a set of Dashr timing gates for IFAST, and I’m pretty pumped! We’ve got a ton of young athletes coming in these days, and with the combo of the timing gates and our Hawkin Dynamics force plates, I think we can put in some serious work to improve their performance.
  • Definitely enjoying the new season of Fortnite. With everything going on I haven’t gotten to play much, but enough time to stack a few wins for sure.

Side note: If you’re busy and don’t have 25-30 minutes to play Battle Royales, I’m really loving the new “Blitz” games that only take 5 minutes.

  • It’s been a LONG and productive summer, but I’m pretty excited for both the long weekend, and a dudes fishing trip coming up in a few weeks. It’s been too long since I’ve done something like this, so fingers crossed I actually catch something notable!

Summary

If this whole thing felt a little bit like a sales letter, my apologies – it just kind of came out that way.

At the end of the day I’m beyond excited about all the great things that are going on here at RTS, and I hope you can say the same.

Be sure to check out any of the relevant web links above, and if you have any questions or need help in figuring out what the next steps are FOR YOU, don’t hesitate to drop me a line at [email protected].

As always, thanks so much for your support – love and appreciate you!

Best,

MR
