Air Fryer Potatoes Recipe – Detoxinista

If you love crispy, perfectly seasoned potatoes, you’re in the right place. I’ve spent the past few weeks testing batch after batch of potatoes in the air fryer, and as a result, I’ve learned a few things that should help you get better results.

  1. Cut the potatoes into small pieces. Smaller pieces (about 1-inch chunks) cook faster on the inside, and that prevents the outside from burning. Ensure all the pieces are roughly the same size so they will finish cooking at the same time.
  2. Don’t cook more than 1 pound of potatoes at a time. If you try to squeeze more than this into your air fryer basket, you’ll wind up with soggy, steamed potatoes rather than crispy ones.
  3. You don’t need fancy spices to create amazing flavor. If you keep basic spices on hand, you’ll have what you need for perfectly seasoned potatoes.

I’ll walk you through the process step by step, so you’ll get delicious results on your first try!

Air Fryer Potato Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Potatoes. Use Yukon gold potatoes for the best texture and flavor. They have a yellow hue and creamy interior that contrasts nicely with the crispy outsides that develop in the air fryer.
  • Olive oil. Any neutral oil will work here, and you won’t need to use nearly as much compared to deep-fried or pan-fried potatoes.
  • Spices. Garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, and salt make these crispy potatoes as flavorful as possible. Using pantry spices helps distribute the flavor more evenly than fresh spices.

Feel free to use any other seasonings you prefer, too.

How to Air Fry Potatoes

Step 1:

Start by cutting the potatoes into bite-sized chunks, about 1 inch thick. The smaller you cut them, the faster they will cook. Try to cut them into similar sizes so that they will cook evenly.

Transfer the potatoes to a bowl and season with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt. Stir well.

Step 2:

Transfer the potatoes to the air fryer basket, spreading them out in a single layer. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook these in two batches. You’ll get the crispiest results if the potatoes don’t overlap.

Cook at 350°F for 15 minutes, then shake the basket and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden brown and easily pierced with a fork.

Step 3:

Serve the potatoes warm right away for the best texture.

Potatoes will become less crispy as they cool. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and lemon wedges, if desired. (A squeeze of lemon juice will brighten the flavor even more.)

How to Store Air-Fried Potatoes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

To reheat, transfer the potatoes back to your air fryer and cook for 5 minutes at 350ºF. They should be piping hot again!

  • 1 pound gold potatoes (or similar)
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Preheat the air fryer to 350ºF, then cut the potatoes into 1- or 2-inch chunks, trying to keep them similarly sized so that they will cook evenly.

  • In a large bowl, toss the potato chunks with the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt. (You can use only olive oil and salt if you prefer, but this seasoning combination is really good!)

  • Arrange the seasoned potatoes into a single layer in your air fryer basket, making sure that the potatoes aren’t touching as much as possible. Cook for 15 minutes at 350ºF.

  • When the timer goes off, remove any smaller pieces that might be done, then shake the basket, and return the remaining potatoes to cook for another 5 minutes. The potatoes are done with they are golden on the outside and tender on the inside. They should be easily pierced with a fork.

  • Serve warm! Leftover potatoes can be reheated in your air fryer at 350ºF for 4 to 5 minutes.

Nutrition information is for 4 ounces of seasoned potatoes. This information is automatically calculated using generic ingredients, so it’s just an estimate, not a guarantee.
